FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We know you may have questions before you engage with us. We have answered the most common ones below.

For Grant Applicants

Who is eligible to apply for a Simani Africa grant?

We welcome applications from registered community-based organisations, NGOs, and social enterprises operating in Africa whose work aligns with our programme pillars and SDG commitments.

What types of projects do you fund?

We fund projects that directly address youth empowerment, women’s empowerment, education, health, climate action, and inclusion — with a clear focus on community-led approaches and sustainable outcomes.

How long does the application process take?

From submission to decision, our grant review process typically takes 8 to 12 weeks. All applicants receive a response regardless of outcome.

How are grant decisions made?

Applications are reviewed by our Grants Committee against published criteria — alignment with mission, organisational capacity, community impact potential, and value for money.

For Donors

How is my donation used?

A minimum of 80% of every donation goes directly to programme delivery. The remainder supports the operational costs that keep Simani Africa running effectively.

Can I donate to a specific programme?

Yes. You may designate your gift to any of our six programme pillars — or leave it unrestricted to go where the need is greatest.

Will I receive updates on the impact of my donation?

Absolutely. All donors receive regular impact updates, including our Annual Report and quarterly newsletters.

For Volunteers

What volunteer opportunities are available?

We welcome volunteers with expertise in programme delivery, communications, finance, health, education, and community facilitation.

Do I need to be based in Africa to volunteer?

Not at all. We welcome both in-person and remote volunteers, matched to opportunities based on their skills and availability.
